I have a theory that a lot of us ended up behind the camera because earlier in life we gave up on other people seeing us too.

So we photograph others.

It brings us joy. We feel valued by our clients because we are giving them the thing we often struggle with the most.

The opportunity to be loved, valued, and seen without judgment and harsh criticism.

This makes you a really beautiful and wonderful photographer.

But it makes you a shit business person because you can’t help but continue to find pockets and spaces to hide in.

Your business will ask every time for you to be bold and brave enough to stand in front of it.

But your inability to do so is why Photography felt so fun and safe in the first place.

Finally, a profession where it doesn’t have to be about you.

Where you can give and overgive freely and never ask for anything in return.

Only you do have to ask for something in return.

And that’s payment, it’s respect, it’s patronage, and a lot more.
